Description:

About the Role
The Materials Synthesis team in Amsterdam focuses on developing catalysts for refineries, chemicals sites, Gas-to-Liquids and Power-to-Liquids processes, and environmental applications. These technologies enable Shell to provide its customers as well as its own sites with high-performing catalysts as well as to support Shell with new processes to thrive through the Energy Transition.
As Associate Researcher in the CATCH (Catalyst Analytical Technology) subteam, you work with your Materials Synthesis colleagues, but also directly with scientists and engineers, to carry out vital chemical and physical analyses on commercial catalysts and catalyst prototypes. In doing so, you deliver crucial information to deepen our understanding of catalysis and improve our catalyst properties and performance. Your work includes an array of analytical techniques, such as porosimetry, BET surface area, crush strength determinations, and thermogravimetric analysis.
You will use your (soft) skills to:
Provide high-quality, reliable analytical data to stakeholders.
Manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Seek to continuously improve CATCH’s analytical capabilities.
Be a role model in Goal Zero and HSSE performance.
What do you need to be successful?
You have a Bachelor’s or a Master’s Degree in Catalysis, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related qualification.
You are interested in all aspects of catalyst analysis, have experience in performing an array of catalyst analysis techniques, and a deep understanding of their underlying principles.
You are able to critically interpret analysis results and help customers understand what the results mean for their projects.
You are excited by new challenges and think creatively to come up with suitable solutions to analytical questions.
You have knowledge of HSSE practices and procedures as described in the ETCA HSSE MS, including PtW, PPE, MOC, HEMP, and Product Stewardship.
You are able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to independently drive testing, and to build effective collaborative relationships with supporting teams and stakeholders.
Computer skills related to managing data and reporting via digital databases and utilizing data analysis tools such as Spotfire and MS Excel, and interest in applying new data analytics tools, are essential.
