Leads one or more of the most complex data engineering projects. Takes the lead in defining and builds the data pipelines that will enable faster, better, data-informed decision-making within the business. Jointly designs and implements a new big data solution which supports high amounts and velocity of data and supports future growth. Identifies latest development, testing and deployment techniques to quickly deploy new releases to e.g. deploy new data pipelines and add data sources. Takes direct reports, when applicable, through Agile Framework and its respective tools. Changes behaviour of stakeholders based on analyses / outcomes. Jointly works together with the Solution and Data Architect to design the target data strategy and the next generation big data platform to support the digital marketing platform. Conducts analyses to solve uncharted information and data queries/problems. Leads complex data engineering projects that require the most advanced data analytics. Working as Data Engineering Lead to develop and deploy innovative big data platforms for advanced analytics and data processing. Works independently under minimal managerial supervision.

Data Science Developer for Gas & Power Trading Role based in London, virtual working is possible. Background - Shell's global Trading and Supply business is one of the largest energy trading operations in the world with key hubs in London, Rotterdam, Singapore, Dubai, and Houston, trading in crude oil, natural gas, LNG, electrical power, refined products, chemical feedstocks, and environmental products. This combined with an integrated network of supply and distribution activities and an industry-leading shipping and maritime capability add value for Shell across its Upstream and Downstream businesses. Shell is committed to the net zero agenda and this role in Shell Energy Europe and Africa (SE-EA) also contributes to that transition. You will be supporting trading across European Power and Gas markets. The role is to join the Price Curve Builder team to develop and productionise an end-to-end Python application for forward curve models for European gas and power. The role involves taking live pricing data from different data sources and producing fair value curves based a set of constraints. The forward curves produced directly support trader decision making. The Role: We need a data science developer with the mathematical background to understand complex constraints models, to develop the forward curve algorithms for various European gas and power markets, and to extend, maintain and improve the code base using object-oriented programming. This is a role for a data science developer with strong mathematical skills, with excellent object-oriented programming skills in Python, experience with the Unix command line (i.e. Bash), and working with Docker. You will work closely with two other data scientists and the Systematic Trading lead to develop and productionise the Price Curve Builder models. You will work with a range of model types, primarily constraint optimisation algorithms. Key Roles & Responsibilities Gain deep understanding of the forward curve model infrastructure and actively contribute to its ongoing development for various markets Design, develop and maintain mathematical constraint optimisation algorithms Co-ordinate closely with other data scientists and the systematic trading lead during development of models, acting as a technical support and coach them in tooling use, as they look to build new models Work with data scientists and the Systematic Trading lead to continuously improve the forward curve models Advocate and produce accurate, performant, scalable and maintainable code following all IT standards Productionise forward curve models, ensuring the code base is structured, modular, extendable and maintainable. Technical skills, Qualifications & Experience Required Background Degree level in data science, mathematics, STEM, or a relevant field of applied mathematics 3+ years work experience in a technical role, with at least 2 years delivering state-of-the-art modelling/algorithmic solutions Technical knowledge Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem solving skills, ideally with experience in constraint optimisation. Experience processing and manipulating data and fitting mathematical models to the data Excellent programming skills Python ML stack – e.g., scipy, pandas, numpy, pytest Experience with object-oriented programming Experience with Unix command line (e.g. bash) is required Experience with Docker is required Desired skills (not strictly required) The following technical skills will be useful (can be learned on the job): -Kubernetes (kubectl, helm) -Experience with infrastructure (terraform, Azure CLI) -REST API development (FastAPI, web development, web security) -front-end development (C#) -CI/CD (Azure DevOps pipelines, GitHub Actions) Experience in Energy trading (power, gas), or financial services environment or comparable domains will be an advantage. wlege.
